Falcon Petroleum Limited, a leading private and wholly indigenous oil & gas service company, is set to actively drive the economic empowerment of women folk within Ikorodu, Lagos State by providing extensive vocational skills acquisition training to selected female participants from across several communities within Ikorodu. This initiative follows through from the collective agreement between Falcon Petroleum and her host communities within Ikorodu, that empowering the citizens to become self-sufficient and thus financially capable of sustaining self and family, will go a long way to improve their standard of living. This achieved, there is the guarantee in the growth of the Nation’s economy.

Over the years, Falcon Petroleum Limited has maintained a harmonious relationship with its host communities in Ikorodu, a clear testament to the developmental and economics benefits that have accrued to the host communities out of the Company’s presence and operations in the area. The focus and core objective of this current CSR initiative by the Company is to provide Vocational Skills Training to the women folk of the local communities in Ikorodu, and is in consonance with the company’s ‘Train a woman, Train a Nation’ maxim. 48 women with limited skills and no elaborate means of livelihood have been selected and will be taken through an intensive 3-month series of vocational trainings, followed by formal one-month industrial placements aimed at giving them practical entrepreneurial experience that will place them on a stronger footing to kick-start their own businesses. At the end of this Skill Acquisition program, participants who successfully complete the training will be given an endowment pack by Falcon Petroleum to start up and run gainful business ventures.
Several dignitaries were in attendance at the kick-off ceremony of the Falcon initiative, including the Oba of Ikorodu…………, with Engr. Taofiq Ajibade Tijani, Lagos State Commissioner for Energy & Mineral Resources as Special Guest of Honor. There is no gainsaying that the economic empowerment of women has a multiplier effect as it translates to an almost immediate contribution to the Nation’s millennium development goals. Falcon Petroleum Limited is the accredited Local Distribution Company (LDC) charged with the responsibility of the gas infrastructure development, operation and management of the Ikorodu Natural Gas Distribution franchise zone, under a 20-year Build-Operate & Transfer (BOT) Agreement with the Nigerian Gas Company Limited (subsidiary of NNPC). Falcon’s operations provide the industries a lower cost, environmentally friendly, alternative fuel (natural Gas) and a stable source of energy for their operations, thereby enhancing the profitability, growth and long term business sustainability of the industries within Ikorodu.
Falcon Petroleum achieved first gas in 2006, delivering several million metric tons of Natural Gas to several industries in Ikorodu, including notable industries as Spintex Mills, African Steel Mills, MBH Power, UNTL, Dangote industries, African Oxygen, Pulkit Steel, Landcraft Steel, amongst several others. Over the past seven years, the company’s operations in the zone have brought multiplier benefits – employment, economic, and environmental to Ikorodu in particular, and Lagos State as a whole. Falcon Petroleum’s long term goal for Ikorodu, and other franchises it will expand into, is to optimize the franchise potentials by ensuring gas availability across the zone, and to encourage the application of Natural Gas in every sphere – industrial/Commercial/residential.
